CVs Are Dead. Here’s What Actually Gets You Hired

Spoiler Alert: Nobody Reads Your 3-Page Resume

Remember when we were told that a perfectly formatted CV = job offers for days? Yeah, turns out hiring managers spend an average of 6 seconds looking at your resume. Six. That’s less time than it takes to read a TikTok caption.

So, if CVs are basically outdated relics, what actually gets you hired?

1: A Killer LinkedIn Profile

Recruiters literally live on LinkedIn. If you don’t have one, you might as well send job applications via carrier pigeon.

DO: Have a clear photo, a strong bio, and highlight actual achievements.

DON’T: List “team player” and “hard worker” like everyone else. Be specific.

2: A Portfolio or Proof of Skills

Hiring managers don’t care about your “excellent communication skills.” They want to see proof.

DO: Have a website, portfolio, or at least some LinkedIn posts showing what you know.

DON’T: Just list skills with no examples (Show, don’t tell!).

3: Networking (Yes, It Actually Works)

Many jobs aren’t even advertised—they’re filled by referrals. So, talk to people!

DO: Join industry groups, attend events, and connect with professionals.

DON’T: Spam people with “Hey, can you get me a job?” DMs.

4: A Killer Cover Letter (If Required)

Most cover letters suck. Yours won’t.

DO: Keep it short, funny, and human. Show personality.

DON’T: Start with “Dear Hiring Manager, I am writing to express…” zzzzzzzz.

5: Actually Applying to the Right Jobs

You can’t just apply to 500 jobs and hope for the best. Be strategic.

DO: Tailor each application to the company.

DON’T: Mass apply without even checking what the job requires.

Final Tip: You Are More Than a CV

Focus on networking, skills, and personality—that’s what gets you hired in 2025. Time to upgrade your job-hunting game! 🚀
